The 2013 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship marked the 17th edition of this prestigious biennial tournament, organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and hosted by the United Arab Emirates Volleyball Association (UAEVA). From September 28 to October 6, 2013, the competition took place in Dubai at the Hamdan Sports Complex and Al-Maktoum Sports Hall, gathering some of the best volleyball teams in Asia to compete for the coveted title.

As one of Asia’s premier volleyball competitions, the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship provides a platform for national teams to showcase their skills and test themselves against the region’s top talent. 

Beyond national pride, this tournament offers teams crucial experience and plays a key role in the development of Asian volleyball. The event is also used to determine qualification standings for various international competitions, making it a significant milestone in the volleyball calendar.

Pools Composition and Team Withdrawals

The 2013 championship featured 16 teams originally distributed into four pools based on their FIVB World Rankings. The tournament saw a few changes in team lineups as Jordan, Indonesia, and Pakistan withdrew. To maintain balance, Uzbekistan moved to Pool A.

Final Round Highlights

The knockout stage of the tournament provided some intense matchups, with Iran showcasing their dominance throughout. After easily defeating Japan in the semifinals (3-0), Iran moved on to face South Korea in the final. South Korea had a strong run, defeating China in the semifinals (3-2), but ultimately fell to Iran in the final match. Iran swept South Korea 3-0 to claim their title, reaffirming their position as one of the top volleyball teams in Asia.

China, on the other hand, clinched third place by defeating Japan 3-1 in the bronze medal match, capping off an exciting tournament for the Asian volleyball community.
